Care Home Fees

Choosing a nursing home or care provider, and dealing with the costs associated can often involve complex and daunting decisions. 

If you plan to gift assets to your friends or family members to ensure they receive some form of inheritance, it is important to ensure you do this well in advance of moving into a care home. 

Your local authority will carry out an income means test, and they will consider three factors in gifting assets: 

Amount – How much have you gifted to a friend or family member? 

Reason – Are you simply avoiding care home fees, or genuinely allowing your friends and family members to enjoy their inheritance.

Time – When were the assets gifted? Before going into care was even considered, or since a diagnosis.
