We’re Finalists in the Yorkshire Legal Awards! Our Private Client department which deals with wills, trust, probate and estate management has been shortlisted for this prestigious award, and we’re thrilled to bits!
So, how come?
We were required to demonstrate depth and knowledge in our services. And we happily obliged!
We’ve dealt with estates over multiple geographical jurisdictions, with Mark Shaw leading, whose multilingual skills and STEP Worldwide Excellence Award and Certificate in Cross Border Estates gives unique expertise in this challenging area.
In our rural community there is a lot of high-net-worth individuals who require tax planning. To support these clients, we create and administer trusts and give extensive holistic advice about the use of trusts.
Jenny Barron has developed expertise in complex estates, and based in Skipton, has a broad knowledge of the legal agricultural sector. Many of our clients have multiple assets: property, land, businesses, etc, and succession planning is a major part of Jenny’s role. She guides clients in what is possible to mitigate tax and ensure the next generation can continue to farm and manage other rural assets.
Sally Houghton, our legal accountant is an expert in trust taxation and tax planning – indeed, a number of accountants with whom we work closely, seek out our advice as Sally’s knowledge is unparalleled in the Aire Valley.
At our Keighley office, Aqeelah Bahadar has devised Shari’a-compliant wills which work under the law of England and Wales. We have seen examples of poor practice in this area, and have worked carefully, using knowledgeable experts in the field and seeking external verification.
Lois di Vito works with families with special needs and regularly gives talks to local support groups, such as Down Syndrome Bradford and Carers’ Resource explaining the benefits of wills, trust and financial planning for their loved ones.
Ian Cormack brings a wealth of experience having worked for Leeds District Probate Registry for 20 years. And Melissa Butler brings to the team a warmth of personality, combined with efficiency and aptitude that makes the creation of a will, a simple and easy task to do, rather than an onerous chore.
Our five support staff also have a wealth of experience and knowledge. Each support staff member supports a specific fee-earner ensuring that clients receive an individual service. We recognise that many of our older clients like the personal touch, and some, due to frailty or ill health, need it. We retain our receptionists and have an open-door policy, rather than using outsourced call centres, and we regularly visit clients at home.
All our team are Dementia Friends, and we are working towards becoming a Dementia Friendly organisation.
Our Private Client team are STEP-qualified (4 staff) or are working towards STEP qualification, the mark of excellence in this area. Further, AWB Charlesworth is Lexcel-accredited, and we have achieved this Law Society quality mark for the last 15 years.
All in all, we’re delighted to be a finalist in the Yorkshire Legal Awards. Perhaps, also, not overly surprised!
For all your legal matters, we’re here for you.
