Jenny runs the extra mile for Manorlands!

Jenny Barron, head of Wills, Trust and Probate ran the London Marathon for charity earlier this year AND organised a festival for Manorlands.

She ran the London Marathon in April in a time of 3hrs, 57mins. Then, wasting no time, Jenny organised the Embsay Festival which was attended by around 400 people.

The festival showcased a variety of talent and entertainment with 6 local bands and artists playing. A bouncy castle, a food van, an ice cream van, face painting, sweetie stall, beer tent and raffle added to the festival vibe.

Combined, Jenny’s marathon and festival fundraising raised an astonishing £5,980.50. Since Manorlands is AWB Charlesworth’s charity of choice for the year 2024, all proceeds of her fundraising went to this most worthwhile of causes.

Jenny said: “The Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice is immensely important, and we enjoy supporting them in every way we can. Many of our staff and clients have links to the hospice, so it’s an absolute privilege to assist this fantastic local cause.”

She also said laughingly: “I’m never doing the London Marathon again! It was hard work – the day and all the preparations and training. But the festival – that might become an annual event, it was so much fun! Watch this space!”

Adam Brunskill, Senior Community Fundraiser for Manorlands said: “On behalf of everyone at Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice I’d like to say a huge thank you to Jenny for all her amazing fundraising as she took on the London Marathon 2024. This incredible total shows that hard work really does pay off. We are incredibly proud of Jenny for what she has achieved, with these vital funds helping to make sure we are there for more people when it matters most.”

Jenny would like to give a big thank you to all her sponsors: AWB Charlesworth, Crag and Co, R McDowell, Tiffany, Wilman and Wilman, and Woolers. She would also like to thank everyone who helped out, allowing the festival to be such a hit, and of course a massive thank you to everyone who came.

Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice is in Oxenhope, near Keighley. They provide expert palliative care to support people with life-limiting conditions, and their families. They work with many families across the Aire Valley and beyond. Only a third of Manorlands income comes from the central government and the NHS, so they rely heavily on fundraising.

Donations to Manorlands can be made on their website https://www.sueryder.org/end-of-life-care/our-hospices-and-care-centres/find-a-local-care-service/sue-ryder-manorlands-hospice/.
